Last week, Pompey chief executive Andrew Cullen and Pompey in the Community CEO Clare Martin joined city-based partners and organisations in learning more about Portsmouth City Council’s Climate Change Strategy.

During the event, city leaders spoke about key environmental issues they are facing, the threat of rising sea levels on an island community and how much the water table continues to rise on the island, contributing to flooding across our city – something which is likely to worsen.

Launching the Climate Change Strategy at the event, the council explained the goal is to become a 'net zero carbon' council by 2030, as well as supporting the city on the same journey.

Cullen said: “I was pleased, on behalf of the football club, to pledge our commitment to environmental sustainability by signing The Portsmouth Green Partnership Charter.

“The Portsmouth Green Partnership Charter is vital in achieving the goal to support and promote environmental sustainability in Portsmouth.

“This impacts us all and the next step will be to work together with Portsmouth City Council and our other partners to understand more and evaluate our current level of carbon emissions.”

The charter signatories' mission is to secure an environmentally sustainable future for the city by reducing carbon emissions and operational waste, supporting local biodiversity and empowering those living and working in Portsmouth to make more eco decisions.
